During our journey, we will hear firsthand from people who dedicate themselves every day to preserving the tropical forests in the Huayabamba Valley. Today we start with Maria del Pilar, managing director of the Cooperativa Choba Choba.
“As managing director of the Choba Choba Cooperative and a forestry engineer, I’m working closely with the communities in the Huayabamba Valley, a region rich in biodiversity and unique ecosystems. Conserving this territory is crucial, not only to preserve the ecological balance but also to ensure the sustainability of the natural resources that local communities depend on.
Human intervention can have negative impacts on the environment if not managed properly. For this reason, at COOPACCC, we work according to agroecological principles and promote organic cacao farming, that encourages the responsible use of natural resources. In our cooperative, we believe that conservation is not only an ecological issue but also an economic and social one. Local communities must play an active role in managing their resources, creating productive alternatives that benefit both the environment and their well-being.
Through awareness and joint efforts, we aim to ensure that future generations can continue to enjoy the benefits of a healthy and productive environment. Conservation in the Huayabamba Valley is a collective effort that involves science, respect for traditions, and economic development. Only in this way can we ensure that this invaluable territory remains a legacy for future generations.
