Today, we meet Lin Caballero Mendoza, cocoa farmer and founding member of Choba Choba.
“As a citizen and cacao producer, I am deeply committed to forest conservation, which I believe is essential to protecting the interconnected lives of all beings on Earth. Forests provide invaluable ecosystem services, from maintaining water quality in our streams to sustaining the unique climate that supports our cacao and other crops. These natural resources are vital, not only to our community but to all life that depends on healthy ecosystems. In the Alto Huayabamba Valley, most communities, including my small village of Pucallpillo, are dedicated to conserving the forests through the management of conservation concessions. This collective commitment allows us to protect the diverse flora, fauna, and countless microorganisms that call these forests home.
For years, I have planted forest trees on my organic cacao farm as part of this ongoing mission to support the land. I am deeply proud to be part of a community that values and prioritizes environmental stewardship. Every day, I am motivated by the responsibility to protect this landscape, ensuring that the forests continue to provide clean air, water, and a safe home for countless species. My name is Lin Caballero Mendoza, and as long as I live and breathe the pure air of this land, I will remain a Guardian of the Forest, dedicated to preserving these vital ecosystems for future generations.”
